Novella are a three piece band from East London. Formed in early 2010, the current line-up consists of members Sophy Hollington, Hollie Warren and Suki Sou. Despite only a small number of releases so far, the band have built a solid fanbase through the internet, jointly running a Soundcloud page and regularly updating a blog showcasing recordings of their performances as well as pictures and videos of their diverse range of influences. Long-haired, melancholy and avid snappers of Polaroid pictures, the influence of bands such as The Breeders and Sonic Youth are clearly heard in their lo-fi music. Their debut single, ‘The Things You Do’, was released in August 2011. They have toured both the UK and Australia in the past year, including a slot at the 1234 Festival in Shoreditch. Recently, they’ve opened for acts such as Veronica Falls and Dum Dum Girls. As a live act, they are reserved and unassuming, hypnotising audiences with the sweet, dreamy tones of their gentle noise pop. In May, they will be playing the Great Escape Festival in Brighton, opening for the likes of Maximo Park. Their self-titled debut EP was due to be released on the 19th of March, but due to problems with manufacturing it is still currently unavailable on vinyl. It is, however, available for download on iTunes.
