The Great Escape, a major three day music festival for showcasing new music, has announced the initial line-up for 2014’s event, to be held over the weekend of the 8th-10th May. The Great Escape has played host to several bands including Klaxons, Alt-J, Jake Bugg, The Vaccines, The Cribs and Mumford & Sons in previous years.

Headlining the event at the Bighton Dome on the Saturday is Kelis, who will be promoting her new album ‘Food’, her first album release since moving to new label Ninja Tune. Changing course from her ususal electronic R&B towards a more soulful sound, Kelis has enlisted the help of Dave Sitek (TV on the Radio, Beady Eye) to produce the record. With countless awards and dozens of top 10 hits, Kelis is sure to go down well.

Also included in the line-up are hotly-tipped newcomers Autobahn, a five-piece from Leeds who draw on influences from early post punk coupled with the explosive energy of 80s hardcore. Circa Waves, championed as being the new Arctic Monkeys are also set to play at the event after being signed to Virgin/EMI after a mere 9 months of playing together. Brighton duo Royal Blood are also to make an appearance, attempting to create the maximum amount of noise with furious rock’n’roll reminiscent of Queens of The Stone Age. Also announced are a whole host of names hyped to become a success in 2014 – expect packed out venues when the likes of Fat White Family, Charli XCXDarlia, Blaenavon and Woman’s Hour play.
